Personal Statement:
When I meet a new client, I always share my respect for the courage it may take to come for counseling. The courage to admit to oneself that one has been doing one's best yet help is still needed. The courage to risk letting a stranger get to know us. To risk trust...when often what brings us to counseling is a history of trust broken by those we may likely have loved and trusted most. I see my role as one of a partner and coach to my client, joining with my client to work toward his or her goals and vision of "a life worth living". We will work from a base of "radical genuineness" together. Honesty and openness is encouraged. Whatever you or I do that may interfere with the work progressing, we both are empowered to discuss it, work together to correct or repair it, to ensure the work can continue, to progress so that you, my client, continue to advance toward your treatment goals and that "life worth living"! I offer a complementary 30 minute session to potential new clients as an opportunity to meet, discuss your needs and goals and to see if you think we would make a good team! It would be a pleasure to meet you! Jo-Anne Beggs, Registered Social Worker practicing psychotherapy and, a member of OASW, serving Toronto and Mississauga.
