We all need at least one person who we can turn to and count on. This person is often our partner or spouse. When this important relationship is working well, we are able to face life's challenges without becoming overwhelmed. On the other hand, if we are stuck in disconnection with our partner, we lose some of our resilience and strength, and tend to struggle more. Research shows that having a solid emotional connection with our partner is good for our health and soothes our nervous systems, opening our lives to creativity and joy. We humans are, quite simply, hard-wired for love. I am trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for Couples through the International Center for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT) based in Ottawa. Dr. Sue Johnson introduced this method after 30 years of researching how to best assist couples in relational distress. She is the author of "Hold Me Tight" and "Love Sense."
Personal Statement:
EFT focuses on emotion as the "music for the dance" which occurs between couples. It is the power of emotional disconnection that derails our relationships and the power of emotional connection that repairs and revives our relationships. EFT provides us with a structured and effective map for building strong and stable couple bonds.
