I have worked with children, youth, and families experiencing crisis and mental health and behavioural challenges since 2016. I am trained in Emotion Focused Family Therapy which can help repair and strengthen relationships between children and youth and their caregivers. I have experience supporting adults with severe and persistent mental illness. I am also skilled in the use of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, mainly helping clients cope with and overcome anxiety, low-mood and depression, anger issues and substance misuse. I also utilize Dialectical Behavioural Therapy with clients who struggle with emotional regulation, trauma, and developing and maintaining healthy interpersonal relationships. I incorporate Mindfulness techniques to assist clients with reducing feelings of judgement and stress and increasing compassion for self and others and overall patience. I pull certain techniques and strategies from Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Relapse Prevention methods.
Personal Statement:
I believe in the uniqueness of each client. Each person I connect with is on their own journey of growth and learning. I practice from a person-centered model that involves collaboration on both the client and my part. I strongly believe that you are the expert when it comes to knowing yourself. How I can be of assistance comes from building a therapeutic relationship of trust and then together working towards agreed upon goals. When working with clients who are facing substance misuse and other addiction challenges I practice from a Harm Reduction model. Harm Reduction means that I support your efforts and choices in reducing the risks to yourself and others and that I do not believe that abstinence is the only solution.
