Personal Statement:
As a play therapist, I believe in the healing power of play for both adults and children. Most adult clients prefer to talk through their issues, but I offer the option of using activity based counselling to help people better process their experiences.I am trained in primary interventions and supportive therapy for those impacted by: serious illness, grief and loss, suicide, trauma, compassion fatigue, violence, divorce, separation, and adoption. I am able to help those who are living with mental health issues such as; anxiety, depression, and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorders. I understand how to work with children and their parents. I use play therapy as a tool for addressing how children think, feel and behave. Sessions usually result in parents gaining a better understanding of how to support their child. Children learn to better manage their day-to-day experiences and teens find a safe space to navigate the world as they see it. I also have extensive experience helping older adults navigate grief, loss and change. I am interested in providing supervision to professional social workers or those seeking certification as play therapists.
